The Missing Suitcase Debacle (8.11.12)

We planned our Saturday around going to the airport to get our bag that didn't make it on our flight. We took the morning easy then grabbed the Point Salines bus to the airport. When we got there, we were told that the American Airlines agent wouldn't be there until 7:30 PM and we would have to come back. Frustrated, we left to find the bus back to campus. On the way, we actually met a Term 1 vet student at SGU, Matt, who was going to campus to play soccer which is what Ash was planning to do when we got back. Through more talking, we find out that he is married and they are expecting a baby soon! After more talking, we find out that they are Christians and we made plans to meet them to try out the Christian Student Association (CSA- the on campus church). God definitely works in funny ways. Yes, we were frustrated that we made the trip to the airport and that our bag was even missing in the first place but in the process, and because of the whole situation, we made a new friend!

Ashkon got to play soccer!! He was so happy :)

It had rained the few days before we got here so the grass field was too wet to play on

And yes, he was wearing vans...He didn't think he would need his indoors so he left them at home. Luckily, I'm going back soon and can bring them for him for those post-rainy day soccer breaks!
And yes, the vans are completely mutilated now (I didn't believe Ashkon for a minute when he said he would't play as hard because he was wearing vans...I don't think that's possible for him :) lol)

After soccer, we went back to the airport. We got there at 7:15 partly because that's when the bus could drop us off, partly because we wanted to try to catch the 7:40 bus back to campus because it was getting dark and partly to try to get it over with. Mistake. After waiting at the American Airlines desk for 30 minutes and having no one show up, we went to the information booth. The lady very unhappily told us that we should just keep waiting and that someone would definitely show up before 8:00. Back to the American Airlines desk we went. To wait. And wait. So, we asked another airport worker and they told us again that someone would be there before 8:00. Right after that another worker said no one would be there until 10...This was getting ridiculous...We waited for another hour and no one showed up. Finally, the American Airlines lady came but she was on her phone. She walked right past us into the back. At this point it was after 9:00. About 20 or 30 minutes she came out. She called another worker to take me back- I had to walk to the baggage claim, identify my bag, have it opened and scanned through at customs and then we were done. Easy as that...The 5 minute trip that took 2 and a half hours. Story for the books, I guess...
