Thankful for a Month of Thankfulness!

Once again, I have been a little behind on my posting so here is what went on in November!

The first day of November, Christmas had officially begun. There were wreaths, Santas, trees. And, what we didn't know, was that was only the beginning. Even though the Grenadian Thanksgiving had been a week before this, it was quite strange to see Christmas decorations with our Thanksgiving seeming so far away. Since it is the month of Thankfulness, we decided to keep lists of something we were thankful for each day!! It was such a great reminder of how much we are blessed with and how thankful we should be!!

On November 4th, I helped host a baby shower for one of my friends here, Joanna! It wasn't easy being creative with decor and food here in Grenada but it turned out great! We did a beached themed shower and had tons of help from other girls to make it all come together! We decided to make it a surprise for Jo so we created a fake "Let's have a girls photo shoot on the beach since we don't have pictures of all of us" story- and she totally bought it! She was so surprised when she arrived! And it wasn't totally a lie- we still took fun pics on the beach ;) The food was great, the decorations worked out so well, the games were fun and everyone had a really good time!

Before November I had been to the cooking class a few times. The first time I went, they didn't cook...they gave us recipes of the food they had already prepared. I mean, we got to try it which was fun but we all thought it was pretty funny that it was supposed to a COOKING class not an eating class :p So, every time I have been since then, the same thing has happened. There has been a different explanation each time (or excuse as it usually sounds...) of why they had to prepare it before or why they weren't able to cook it out with the class. I am very skeptical of if they even ever really cook during the class, but I will probably keep going back to see! :)

First time at the Fabric Store Downtown! My sister and I have been talking about coming up with something we could make and sell so I wanted to do a look through and see if we could be unique and use Grenadian fabric! I was too overwhelmed to actually buy anything with so many options (which isn't always the case in Grenada) but it was nice to see what they had and look at the prices!

On the way home, we made a quick stop at The Merry Baker for the first time! Mmm I got Ash some Chelsea buns (Cinnamon Rolls) and wheat bread!

November 15 was Ellie's 1st birthday which was hard to miss but it was fun to be able to see everyone through Facetime! And, I got plenty of pics throughout the day of Ellie's great party!

A friend in our Bible Study, Yunah, is getting married in January, so on Saturday (11/17) I went to a Bridal Shower Tea Party for her! The girls who hosted it were so creative and the things they did to make it special were amazing!!!

Our first Thanksgiving in Grenada was a unique one! Ash had class all day since Grenada has their own Thanksgiving and does not celebrate the American Thanksgiving. But, I wanted our first Thanksgiving to still be special! So, we made Turkey Sandwiches and Potato Wedges! And, Pumpkin Bread for dessert!! We knew that we were having a real thanksgiving meal with friends over the weekend, so it was nothing crazy but we still had fun!! Then, after we ate we did my family thanksgiving tradition of putting corn kernels in a basket (or on top of a pumpkin can in our case) and saying something we are thankful for with each kernel!

Our big thanksgiving dinner was on Saturday at our friends Jessica and Michael's house! We all chipped in for a big turkey and then potlucked the rest of the meal! I, for the first time, made mashed potatoes! And I brought pumpkin bread (plain and chocolate chip!) for dessert! Friends made stuffing, green bean casserole, gravy, pumpkin pie and so much more!!! It was a feast!!

After dinner and a lot of Catch Phrase, we headed home! Not long after we went to sleep, we got a call from Matt (Jo's husband) that she was having the baby!!!!! We waited a couple more hours to finally found out that they had a GIRL!! Elora :) (They didn't find out before if they were having a boy or a girl so we had all been waiting for MONTHS to find out too!) Later that night once they were all settled and had some family time, we got to go visit! Elora was so tiny! Since she was 4 weeks early, she only weighed 5 lb 4 oz! We got to hold her (I had never held a baby so small) and she was so precious!!

Last SO event of the month: Tie Dye with a Twist!!

Mine is the Pink and Yellow one in the middle!
